Cal Ripken Baseball Division - Ages 4-12

Keeping baseball fun—especially in the early stages of youth baseball—is a primary concern of Babe Ruth League’s Cal Ripken Division, which is comprised of the following levels:

Tee-Ball: Ballplayers ages 4-6 learn hitting and fielding fundamentals in a supportive team environment. Young athletes hit the ball from a batting tee which is height-adjusted for a level swing, batting in order through the line-up for the entire game.  All players must be 4 by April 30, 2018 to be able to play baseball.

Rookie: Designed primarily for ballplayers ages 7-8, this division makes use of a pitching machine to allow for more hittable balls at the plate and more action in the field, with progression to kid-pitch.  All players must be 6 by April 30, 2018 before moving into our Rookie division.

Minor: Recommended for ballplayers ages 9-10.  Players build and refine their fundamental skills while beginning to understand game strategy and teamwork.  In most regions, participants first experience post-season tournament competition in this level.  All players must be 8 by April 30, 2018 before moving into our Minor division.

Major/70: Featuring a 50’ pitching distance and 70’ base paths. This is the same size field as the AAU fields for ages 11 and up.  Having our major division players play at this size field allows for an easier transition when they graduate our league and move on to Pal/Babe Ruth and/or Middle School Baseball.  All players must be 10 by April 30, 2018 before being considered for our Major division.

Any player who is too old to play in our Major Division next year, will need play in PAL/Babe Ruth Baseball. Please visit their website for their contact information.

TBall, Rookie and Minor Baseball Divisions will be played at our Apponaug Baseball Complex starting around the 3rd week in April.

Major Division plays at our Kenney Field location off of Jefferson Blvd.

TBall players play on Saturday mornings.  Rookies play on Saturdays as well as once during the week.  Minor and Major teams play 2 games during the week, none on the weekends.  All baseball will typically be played until 3rd week in June.

Apponaug is the only organized league in the city of Warwick and East Greenwich to offer 50/70-foot "Pony Style" baseball as part of the regular Major Division program.

The ABRBL Major Division, players compete on the 50/70 foot Major Division field, and will have an edge going to the bigger diamond.  Learning the fundamentals of real baseball (Leading off base; Pitchers holding on runners) will prepare them for the next step when they move to a higher division.

We also have Fall Ball programs for ages 6-12.
